Melodies surface organically, balancing rhythmic drive with dreamy atmospheres. The band’s name, Lucifecit, taken from a sacred creek, may stem from a Mozarabic variation of lucifer (“bearer of light”), possibly alluding to Iron Age rituals of veneration for a distant star. Devoção glows in the dark: a fresh take on spiritual jazz built on modal structures, pulsating syncopation, Punk-Gnawa-inspired basslines, and dazzling horn improvisations.
“The Portuguese band takes some scintillating turns through modal jazz with spiritual undertones. Mixing throbbing bass with acrobatic horn improvisations, the record stings the listener and leaves a burn for days to come.”
